sounds good to me. use the automatic versions (eg leslie-locke's $12
afv-1b) with bimetallic springs that close the louvers in wintertime.
or maybe install a ceiling fan in the floor and fill the crawlspace with
55 gallon water drums with a dew point controller or condensation drain,
and use it for cooling the house by drawing in cool outdoor air at night
and circulating air between the house and the crawlspace during the day...
average daily min, 24-hour, and daily max temps look like this in phila:
jan feb mar apr may jun jul aug sep oct nov dec
22.8 24.8 33.2 42.1 52.7 61.8 67.2 66.3 58.7 46.4 37.6 28.1
30.4 33.0 42.4 52.4 62.9 71.8 76.7 75.5 68.2 56.4 46.4 35.8
37.9 41.0 51.6 62.6 73.1 81.7 86.1 84.6 77.6 66.3 55.1 43.4
a house with lots of internal thermal mass and mass surface and selective
ventilation might need no ac in phila...
and it might need no heat in phoenix, az...
