well, maybe eco-friendlier. most centralized power plants send about half
the fuel's heating value up the chimney when making electricity. as long
as we are burning fuel, why not use that "waste heat" for space and water
heating, on a smaller scale...
northern (800) 533-5545 sells a 6500 w water cooled 308 pound es 6500 honda
generator as item #1676-c151 for $2699.99. electric start, 120/240 v, 78 db.
its 12 hp ohc 2 cylinder 359 cc 78 db engine might run 12,000 hours between
overhauls. it runs 5.7 hours on 4.2 gallons of gasoline, ie it makes about
4.2x130k/5.7 = 96k btu/h of combined electricity and heat, 28 kw altogether,
23% as electricity and 74 k btu/h of heat, more than many home furnaces.

will they pay for cogeneration?
