put a 2" horizontal pvc pipe with holes in the bottom along the bottom
of a watertight cavity between 2 layers of glazing. add 10% sodium lauryl
sulfate solution, 0.1% of the total cavity volume. attach a shop vac to
one end of the pipe (with a cap at the other end), and blow air through
the pipe to make bubbles.
put a 2" or larger return air duct at the top of the cavity and cover
the entrance with some insect screen. use a microswitch to detect the
screen deflection when soap bubbles begin to push on the screen and
turn off the shop vac. the bubbles will disappear in about 45 minutes,
or faster in sunlight.
the shop vac runs less than 1% of the time, and tiny cold bubbles (1/16"
at 50 f mean temp) have about the same r-value as fiberglass insulation.
