an n-watt thing running 100% of the time uses about $n/year at 10 cents/kwh,
and 400 watt furnace blowers are common, and the power consumption is roughly
proportional to the cube of the rpm or airflow volume, so running a blower
at less than full-speed can save lots of energy. it's quieter, too...
