i looked at the hampton bay (800) 749-3267 $199 gossamer windward ii fan
at a home depot yesterday. didn't notice how the blades curved, but the
manual said it moves 3600 cfm at 19 watts, 6800 at 38, and 9520 at 60,
better and maybe quieter than their $49 56" industrial fan, which moves
7687 cfm at 104 watts, but not as good as grainger's $110 48" 4c853
industrial ceiling fan that moves 21k cfm with 86 watts.

the gossamer looks cool, and the remote control has a clock to turn on
the fan or light at certain times and a thermostat in the control that
turns on the fan at low speed, then ups it to medium, then high, each time
the temp rises 4 f. the 30 w circline light can be dimmed to 20%, but
that still looks very bright to me. the industrial fans come with 3 speed
controls, but home depot also sells a continuously-variable lutron control
for $7.97. can we add a thermistor across the pot to speed up the fan as
the temperature rises?

the hampton bay rep said "industrial" fans are speced for a 10' min
height because they can rotate fast enough to decapitate people, but
i could live with a 7' fan height...
