i wouldn't expect much improvement soon for these complex power devices
(vs backwards lamp dimmers :-) it's been a while, but i seem to recall
that a well-designed 200 watt power supply produced in a large volume
might achieve a 50k hour (5.7 year) mttf. i suppose pc power supplies
are better now, with their enormous volume and field experience.
old-fashioned telephones and refrigerators are remarkable :-)
