barrels have a long time constant. rc = 450/(1.5x25) = 12 hours for
a 55 gallon drum, but they could store coolth for more than a day, and
they are less trouble than all those pipes. outdoor airflow still seems
like the limiting factor. can we use a $100 90 watt 21k cfm ceiling fan
with no louvers instead of a $300 3k cfm noisy whole house fan?
warm air rises...
that would make g about 2000 for a bare basement, with rc = 6 hours.
we could also tuck 12" poly ductfuls of water under the rafters...
4" of water all over the ceiling would add 22k btu with a 7 h time
constant and a materials cost of $300, and we might move outdoor air
through the cavities above the ducts with a higher velocity in order
to lower the cooling time constant.
