adding thermal mass might make the fridge cycle less often, but
it won't significantly change the amount of energy used.
otoh, filling your house with 2-liter water bottles could help keep it
warmer or cooler. adding 5682 2-liter accent bottles (or 5000 hollow
concrete blocks) to a typical house with r = 1/500btu/h-f would make
rc = 500 hours :-)
otoh, pop bottles leak water vapor and need topping up every year or two.
maybe it's better to thread 256 10'x4" pvc pipes with end caps and #3
rubber stoppers in 3/4" holes through 1920 hollow blocks in a 10' cube.
starting at 70 f indoors, with no internal heat gain, the house would
reach 30+(70-30)exp(-120/500) = 62 after 5 cloudy 30 f days in a row.
