minus 20 f air at 100% rh has w = 0.0002632 pounds of water per pound of
dry air with vapor pressure pa = 29.921/(1+0.62198/w) = 0.0127 "hg. at 70 f
and 100% rh, ps = 0.748 "hg, so heating -20 f air to 70 f (with no change in
moisture content) would reduce the rh to an unbearablable 100pa/ps = 1.7%.

it takes lots of energy to evaporate water, which greatly increases
the house heating bill, even if we turn down the thermostat slightly.
another solution is to caulk the house and get a fountain or a few green
plants or leave some toilet seats up. this reduces the house heating bill.
