re: water prices? 24 jul 1997 why not "go off the grid," by collecting rainwater from the roof? richard komp does this in maine, using a 1000 gallon plastic cylindrical tank on the ground, and a simple mechanical gadget that discards the first 5 gallons of bird poop, etc, after a rainstorm begins. a small pump moves water up to a 55 gallon drum in the attic as required, in his gravity flow water system. a float valve in the tank on the ground might replenish it from the usual water supply in times of drought. where i live in pa, with about 4" of rain per month, a 1,000 square foot roof can supply an average of 80 gallons of water per day. nick |
