sure. loops in a trench or a pond, and so on. the deep ground temp is
about the same as the average yearly air temp. if we make it colder
locally over the winter, heat will flow in from around the cold spot
to warm it up over the rest of the year. the main mechanism for upward
heatflow in the ground is evaporation in lower layers, vapor transport
through soil porosity, and condensation in upper layers.
