how hard can this be? you might use a 2' diameter cable reel...

as the platform goes up 8', the weight descends 4'. the rope might
have a couple of loops to slip over hooks on the wall to keep the
platform from moving, if friction is insufficient.

you might use an inexpensive electric winch, or a windshield wiper motor
with a couple of limit switches...
