sounds interesting. i have an old bag of asbestos furnace cement :-) 

but i'm more inclined to make a 16' tower out of about 200 8x12x16" blocks,
at $1 each, and some surface bonding cement--4'x4' wide at the base and
1'x2' wide at the top, with a normally-closed damper over the top, and a 
few chimney blocks with large holes at the bottom to scoop out the ashes.

most of the blocks could be filled with sand to increase the heat capacity
and conductance, and the blocks near the house wall could be hollow, with
house air flowing into the bottom through a basement window and warmed air
flowing out of the chimney into the house through the top of a first floor
window with a plastic film one-way damper.
