i've looked at 'em. have you tried looking at $5 lamp dimmers, or the new
trace 130 w inverters, or pv panels with integrated grid-tie inverters and
110 vac wall plugs (not receptacles) at the ends of their cords? :-)
grid-tie-only inverters don't need to synthesize sine waves, or charge
or discharge batteries. lamp dimmers work at low power levels, and don't
need big heat sinks or transformers or fans.
honest electric utilities would show equal concern for their networks
when someone plugs in a source with a backwards lamp dimmer or unplugs
a working lamp dimmer. the electrical effect is the same. the red-herring
fried lineman scare-tactic issue can be effectively solved in a number
of simple and inexpensive ways.
