pvs don't look like an economical alternative.

pv's won't do that for long either, with electric heat. how about combining
heat and power in a small "cogenerator" which also heats the house, vs
discarding 2/3 of the fuel's "waste" heating value up a cooling tower, as
most central power plants do? honda's 1800emxk1 $929 0.5x0.4x0.4 m 42 kg
air-cooled portable generator makes 1500 watts of electricity while using
0.88 liters of gasoline per hour to make 9 kw of heat and 64 db of noise.
you might put one or two of them in an insulated box with some sealed
containers of water to store the heat and reduce the noise, and change
their 0.6 liters of oil every 100 hours until they wear out in 10,000
hours. cogen now supplies 40% of the power in denmark. by 2010, 100%
of their non-wind power may come from cogeneration...

just watts, not watts per hour. you might enjoy wandering up to brace
research institute (ae12000@musica.mcgill.ca) at st. anne de bellevue.
ask to see the french version of their "solarium" (low-thermal-mass
sunspace) design handbook.

>...wich mean that if a solar panel can generate 50w/hour i need 40 panels...

just watts again, not watts per hour. but why not collect and store solar
heat, vs making and storing electricity that is then converted to heat?
the collectors are cheaper, eg $10/m^2 sunspaces, storage is cheaper, eg
$4 sewer pipes full of water, and efficiency is closer to 50 than 15%.
