an air-air heat exchanger, i suppose. might be 90% efficient at 5 cfm,
using an additional 5 or 10 watts per occupant to heat incoming air.

they might use an oxygen depletion sensor in parallel with
a humidistat to open the heat exchanger, which might be a
double-walled fireplace chimney with house air leaving up
the middle and outdoor air falling into the pipe around it.
