more passively and traditionally, keeping the air around a 20 ft^2
300 btu/h human at 70 f on a 30 f day requires adding insulation with
70 f - 30 f = 300 btu/h rv/20 ft^2, so rv = 2.7 ft^2-f-h/btu, eg an
inch or so of wool all round. 

less portably, an l' cube requires rv = 0.8l^2. rv = 51 for l = 8', like
a single layer of strawbales. a 16' cube needs rv = 204, eg 4-deep
strawbale walls and ceiling, and l = 32' makes rv = 819, eg a 16-bale 
thermal fortress.
